Mr. Raihanul Islam Chowdhury is the President of In Search of Root Foundation, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting legal remittance practices, advancing financial literacy, fostering entrepreneurship, and strengthening responsible migration and diaspora engagement. He is also the Convener of the 1st International Investment and Digital Finance Fair 2026.
Mr. Chowdhury serves as an Executive Member of the Sierra Club – Beyond Coal USA, where he contributes to advocacy, policy reform, and grassroots mobilization for clean energy. In addition, he is the Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh–USA Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BUCCI), actively promoting bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.
Raihanul Islam Chowdhury is the son of Khan Bahadur Badi Ahmed Chowdhury, a prominent political figure of British India who served as an MLA and MLC of the Bengal Presidency. His legislative constituency in 1940 covered a vast region, including present-day Chittagong and Sylhet Divisions of Bangladesh, districts such as Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Feni, Cumilla, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Brahmanbaria, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Sylhet, and the Indian state of Tripura.
Mr. Chowdhury holds an MBA from Texas and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), USA—equivalent to a Chartered Accountant in England and Wales. He spent over 34 years in the U.S. healthcare industry and retired as Chief Financial Officer of major hospitals, including those under Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the world’s largest hospital corporation. His leadership contributed significantly to financial sustainability, operational efficiency, and strategic growth within the healthcare sector.
A global climate activist, Raihanul Islam Chowdhury is a strong advocate for climate justice and a coal-free world. He actively participates in international climate forums and spoke at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland. He serves as Executive Director of Coal Free World USA, where he leads initiatives to transition away from coal-fired power and mining toward clean and renewable energy. Inspired by Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 1924 warning on the destructive impact of coal, he works closely with policymakers, activists, and organizations, primarily in Texas and West Virginia, coordinating efforts with the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal program.
In April 2024, he became Chairman of the Serajul Alam Khan Center and Research Institute in Dhaka, dedicated to research and intellectual discourse on political, historical, social, cultural, and economic issues, honoring the legacy of Serajul Alam Khan and his lifelong advocacy for farmers and working families.
He is the Founder of Manobotar Bashostan (Habitat for Mankind) Bangladesh, an initiative inspired by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s Habitat for Humanity, aimed at providing dignified housing for the homeless and underprivileged in Bangladesh.
Additionally, Mr. Chowdhury serves as Patron and Advisor to CIVN USA, supporting marginalized communities affected by child hunger, environmental racism, and unemployment, particularly African American communities in Texas.
He is also President & CEO of Dallas Ranch and Farm, a 410-acre environmentally friendly ranch in Texas, where he champions sustainable agriculture, animal welfare, and soil conservation to counter the environmental damage caused by industrial farming.
