Asok Motayed is an engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose career spans over five decades of international professional and civic engagement. Born in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University before immigrating to the United States in1971 to pursue graduate studies at Rutgers University, NJ, where he earned his Master of Science degree.

Beginning his professional career with an international engineering firm in New York, New Jersey, Mr. Motayed gained extensive experience in managing large-scale infrastructure and development projects. In 1976, he moved to the Washington office of the company and has been living there since then. In 1980, along with couple of his friends, he founded a consulting engineering company, which he led as President for more than two decades. Under his leadership, the firm expanded its operations nationally and internationally, executing engineering and development projects in over 25 countries across North America, Asia, Africa and the Middle Easi.

In 2001, Mr. Motayed founded NexGen Systems Corporation, providing specialized technical and management support to various US government agencies. His entrepreneurial work also extended to advising and restructuring small and mid-sized companies, with a focus on restoring financial performance and operational efficiency through merger and acquisition initiatives.

Although now retired from day to day management, Mr. Motayed remains actively involved in business and community affairs. He mentors several emerging start-ups, particularly those founded by young entrepreneurs of South Asian origin, and serves on the boards of multiple business and social organizations. His continuing engagement reflects his commitment to fostering innovations, leadership and cultural exchange among the next generation of professionals.

A longstanding advocate for education and social development, Mr. Motayed contributes to many charitable and community initiatives. He is active in Rotary International, Sanskriti of the Washington Metropolitan Area and Cultural Association of Bengal of New York. In addition, he founded and supports Kolkata Sahajpaath, a charitable organization in Kolkata dedicated to providing computer education to children from economically disadvantaged communities. He also supports several US and India-based nonprofit organizations focused on education and poverty alleviation.
